The team of professionals restarting the Silius mine

Reactivating Silius is not only about bringing shafts, tunnels and plants back into operation. It means restarting a system of skills, where safety, engineering, geology and a comprehensive knowledge of the mine work together.

Mineraria Gerrei is bringing fluorite back into production, a critical raw material for the green transition and for high-tech industry, from one of the most important ore deposits in Europe. Behind every stage, though, there are people.

The mine manager: leading the project. Coordinates operations, plans the work and ensures technical and safety procedures are met. Turns industrial objectives into the daily organisation of work, balancing production, worker protection and regulatory compliance.

The HSE Manager (Health, Safety and Environment Manager): safety as a precondition. In a mine, safety is not a final check, it is the prerequisite for every activity. The HSE Manager assesses risks, designs prevention measures and works alongside the whole operational staff. It is a cross-cutting role that runs through every function on site, from underground to the processing plant.

The surveyor: measuring to advance. Before moving forward, you need to know exactly where you are. Using digital surveys, laser scanners and 3D modelling, the surveyor continuously updates the geometry of the mine, turning it into an essential tool for planning and operating safely.

The geologist: reading the deposit. Provides integrated analysis of rock mass, geological structures and ore layout to understand where the resource lies and how to develop it. Defines the deposit models and guides operational decisions, turning scientific knowledge into a tool that serves production.

The miner: the operational heart of the subsurface. Today a highly technical job, organised into specialised teams, dedicated to each specific phase of the exploitation: drilling, blasting, loading and hauling, reinforcing, carrying out maintenance of service lines (electricity, water, connection), keeping a continuous flow towards the next stages.

The plant operator: transforming the mineral. Runs the machinery and process parameters (mills, screens, cells, conveyors) to turn the extracted raw material into a higher grade product that meets the required standards. An increasingly technical role, built on data and continuous improvement.

The laboratory technician: controlling quality. Analyses samples and manages datasets showing whether the process is working properly and whether the product meets its targets. The lab is the mine’s scientific control room, where quality becomes an integral part of the process.
